North Christian Church is located in Markleville, Indiana just seven miles south of Anderson, Indiana. We are a congregation that averages about 200 people. Job Description:

The Worship Pastor will oversee and coordinate all the details that a worship service encompasses.  This means leading the congregation in a worship experience that promotes a heightened sense of the presence of God and allows them to connect to and worship their Savior.

Qualifications:

  1. A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and reflected in a growing personal relationship with Him.
  2. A commitment to moral purity.
  3. A commitment to the shared beliefs, values, vision, and mission of North Christian Church.

Accountability:

The Worship Pastor reports directly to the Senior Pastor and is accountable to the Pulpit Committee and Board of North Christian Church.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan the corporate worship services of North Christian Church in consultation with the Senior Pastor, and do so with prayer, conceptual forethought, biblical/theological accuracy, and musical appropriateness.  The worship services currently consist of: (a) traditional worship service (b) contemporary/blended worship service, (c) special services.
  • Services are to be planned in compliance to the Worship Service Guidelines provided by the Pulpit Committee. (See stated later in document)
  • Ensure that all musical and technical aspects are in working order prior to the time of scheduled services.
  • Oversee song and choral selections, media preparations and presentations, sound and lighting enhancements and coordination of all instrumentalist, vocalists and dramatists.
  • Present the words to each congregational hymn on the large overhead screen.
  •  Be prepared to direct all weekly activities and rehearsals necessary to facilitate the worship services
  • One time of rehearsal is required weekly for the choir during the months of Sept-May.
  • One time of rehearsal is required weekly for the worship band/team.

(Any cancelations of choir or band practice must be approved by the Senior Pastor.)

  • Identify, recruit, and train volunteers for all areas of worship.
  • Plan and coordinate an annual choir retreat.
  • Coordinate all worship services.
  • Meet with the Senior Pastor weekly to provide insight/reflection to worship services, planning, etc.
  • Develop and maintain a budget for worship
  • Build and maintain a good relationship with church staff and volunteers.
  • Prepare a report to be presented at the monthly board meetings.
  • This position will require 20-25 hours per week

Worship Guidelines

All worship and special services planned must keep to the requirement as outlined in the Worship Service Guidelines.

Traditional Worship Service

Plan and coordinate a traditional worship service with the following guidelines:

Music:

  1. Use traditional hymns, choir, special music, outside groups, etc.

When media is used such as power point during the time of traditional hymns include the page numbers corresponding to the hymnal.

  1. Choir is to be scheduled twice a month to sing in the traditional service.
  2. Special songs (presented by soloists and groups) are to be incorporated at least twice a month on those weeks the choir is not singing.
  3. Keep the time of worshipers standing to a minimum.
  4. Incorporate time for altar service.
  5. Plan for communion the first Sunday of every month.
  6. Plan the worship time to start promptly at the scheduled time.
  7. The worship service shall not exceed 35 minutes prior to the message.

Contemporary/Blended Service:

Plan and coordinate a contemporary worship service with the following guidelines:

  1. Use various styles of traditional, contemporary, praise and worship, choir, special singing, and outside groups.
  2. Use drama, video, etc., as needed to advance the worship experience.
  3. Choir to be scheduled to sing twice a month during the contemporary service  (Sept. –May).
  4. Special songs are to be used on opposite weeks of the choir singing.
  5. All worship practice during Sunday morning must not begin before 10:00 a.m. and be completed before 10:30 a.m.  The volume level during this practice time must be kept low enough not to disturb other church functions.
  6. Incorporate time for altar service.
  7. Plan for communion the first Sunday of every month.
  8. Plan the worship time to start promptly at the scheduled time.
  9. The worship service shall not exceed 35 minutes prior to the message.

Special Services:

  1. The Good Friday and Christmas services will follow the traditional worship guidelines.

The worship pastor shall recognize the changing needs of the congregation.  These changes will be addressed by the Pulpit Committee, Senior Pastor and shall include the input of the Worship Pastor.
