Position Summary:

 

The position of Executive Director of Operations is responsible for the over-all operations of the Business and Finance Offices, Environmental Services (buildings and grounds),Human Resources, Information Technology, and Community Outreach Minisitries at Southport Presbyterian Church (SPC).  The Executive Director of Operations as a member of the Leadership Team cooperates closely and openly with all Pastors and other lay members  of the Team to ensure the best operations within the church.  The Director serves as an ex officio member of the Stewardship Ministry, and Personnel Ministry and cooperates with and assists the Trustees, Deacons, and ruling Elders in the operations of SPC.  It is imperative for the Executive Director of Operations to profess a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, to weekly attend a worship service and otherwise to be actively involved in the life and worship of a Christian church.

Demonstrates Christian Character:  Possesses and demonstrates Biblical Christian Character, has a heart for ministry, adesire togrow spiritually, and a passion to serve the Lord.

Excellent Oral and Written Communication Skills: Must be able to clearly present information through spoken and written word.

Over-all Understanding of Business Operations:  In areas of responsibility the Administrator must possess an over-all knowledge of the basic operations and remain curren on new practices, technology and regulations and laws that will impact SPC.

Working Knowledge of Computer Functions: Basic knowledge of, and ability to use, computerized databases of financial records and other programs necessary for the operation and functioning of SPC.

Clear understanding of policies and procedures: Must be able to act in accordance with established guidelines and be able to communicate and enforce SPC's policies and procedures.

Ability to maintain confidentiality: Must be able to be tactful and handle confidential information (i.e. congregation giving records, and employee salary information) and situations and events pertaining to the SPC congregation and staff.

Education and Experience Requirements:

 

The Executive Director of Operations is required to hold a bachelors or masters degree from an accredited college or university in Administration, Accounting or in a field related to the operations of a church or not-for-profit organization.

Five years of experience in HR, Administration, Accounting or related field required.

Prefer certification as a Church Business Administrator, SHRM certification or similar certification that is related to the business and financial operation of the church.

 

Essenstial Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Financial Operations:  Directs, oversee, and cooperates with the Director of Financial Services in providing an ethical and legal financial and business operations.  Ensure the creation and maintenance of systems that will result in compiling an annual budget, accurately recording and reporting of all financial transactions and ensuring communication and cooperation with the Stewardship Ministry, Session and the church congregation.

 

Human Resources:  Directs and oversees the Human Resources functions of SPC.  In cooperation with the Personnel Ministry establishes and enforces the HR policies of the church.  Maintains contact with professional benefit specialists to evaluate and recommend HR benefits that support and meet the basic needs of the church staff within the financial capacity of the church.  Maintains a Human Resources policy manual reviewing the salary and wages of SPC positions and presenting findings to the Personnel and Stewardship Ministries for approval and inclusion in the annual budget.  Administrates the 403B and other benefit programs.

 

Information Technology:  Directs, oversees, and cooperates with the Director of Information Technology to provide the information systems necessary to operate the church and support the needsof the staff.  Systems include but are not limited to computer network, 

 

Environment Services: Directs, oversees and cooperates with the Director of Environmental Services in the maintenance of the SPC buildings and grounds including communication and cooperation with the SPC Trustees.  Communicates regularly with the Trustees president.  Maintains knowledge of the various service and rental agreements and contracts required to operate the church.

 

Community Outreach Ministries:  Directs, oversees, and cooperates with the Directors of the CO Ministries which includes the Foods Services Ministry and Welcome Place Child Care.  Directs and supervises all church Directors in areas of Finance, Human Resources and Facilities in the over-all  operations of the minisitries while cooperating with the pastoral staff on the ministry and spiritual aspects and supervision of each ministry.  Informs the Stewardship, Personnel Ministries and Session in the oversight and operation of the industries.

 

Business Operations:

 

Directs and oversees the business operations and decisions of the church in cooperation with Personnel and Stewardship Ministries, Trustees and Session while communicating and cooperating with the Senior Pastor and Assistant Pastor(s).  Oversees the negotiation of and signs contracts, reviews and evaluates insurance needs of the church, communicates with attorneys and other professionals as needed for wills and bequeaths, church mortgage, 403(B) Retirement plan, etc. to ethically, legally, and morally represent the affairs of the Southport Presbyterian Church.  Suervise Administrative Assistants directing their work to provide adequate and required clerical support for the Pastors and Directors.

 

Represent our Lord Jesus Christ in all dealings with the surrounding community, congregation and staff.

 

Perform other related functions as assigned.
