Race Track Chaplaincy of America (RTCA)

Executive Director

 

Description:

 

The Executive Director (ED) will work at the direction of the RTCA Board of Directors, while maintaining by-law authority in his/her area of responsibility.  The ED will oversee the management of RTCA in the fulfillment of its mission to minister to the spiritual, emotional, physical, and social/educational needs of the race track working community who are involved in all aspects of the horse racing industry.

 

Overview:

 

The ED will supervise the work of the staff, including a Director of Administration and Operations and a small part-time staff to ensure the effective operations of the RTCA National Office, implementation of the strategic plan and budget, fulfillment of fund raising objectives and maintain relationships with affiliated councils.  The ED will be the organization’s primary representative within the horse racing industry and will work closely with the racetrack and horse farm chaplains and their local chaplaincy councils. The ED will fulfill other duties as assigned by the Executive Committee.

 

Operational and Strategic Areas of Responsibility:

 

The Executive Directors primary responsibilities, which include direct responsibility for and establishment of structures to achieve the following:

 

  • Direct reporting to the RTCA Executive Committee and Board of Directors
  • Provide direct supervision over the Director of Administration and Operations and other staff as needed
  • Is the National voice for the RTCA community inside and outside the horse racing industry
  • Establish criteria and recruit professional Christian ministers for the race track chaplaincy program, as needed
  • Provide Pastoral Care, Liaison and Consultation with and to all the approved Chaplains in RTCA
  • Provide Liaison and Consultation with all affiliated councils in RTCA
  • Oversee all committee activity
  • Maintain a corporation office with regular hours and normal functions
  • Ensure that RTCA maintains its 501(c)(3) status
  • Ensure that the RTCA Purpose and Mission Statement is published and carried out
  • Oversee, develop and supervise the management of the budget and the coordination of all accounting and auditing activities
  • Oversee the development of funding sources to meet budgetary requirements
  • Oversee all operational areas including coordinating events and special projects
  • Oversee all communication; including announcements, newsletters, letters, Facebook, Twitter and all internet based media 
  • Oversee the administration of the RTCA Executive Committee and the Board of Director
  • Represent RTCA to organizations, racetracks and horsemen’s associations in the horse racing industry
  • Represent RTCA to churches, denominational and interdenominational groups, benevolent foundations, media, and the general public
  • Oversee Chaplaincy ministries outreach in North American and potential international opportunities
  • Oversee the establishment of new RTCA ministries at race tracks, breeding farms and training centers
  • Provide spiritual leadership and theological direction
  • Oversee the recruitment and training of board member


Direct Supervisory Responsibilities:

 

  • Oversight of the daily operations of the RTCA national office. This includes coordination of staff and interns as appropriate to the position.                                                      
  • Development and oversight of plans for adapting RTCA operations and staff structures to current and future needs, including office support, business management, fundraising and communications.
  • Provide an administrative “face” and “voice” for the RTCA national office, in support of the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors
  • Oversee and conduct the RTCA National Annual Convention

 

Preferred Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor’s Degree required and a Master’s and/or Doctorate preferred
  • 5 to 7 Years of related management/leadership experience
  • Direct experience in working with multi-cultures and specifically Hispanic


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:


  • Written, electronic and verbal communication
  • Fluent in English (some Spanish helpful)
  • Knowledgeable of Social Media
  • Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Leadership with ability to manage and motivate staff
  • Administrative, organizational and coordination
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Collaborative team-working style with ability to relate effectively
  • Supervisory and management experience necessary
  • Strong fundraising skills are essential


Working Conditions:


  • Job location is National Headquarters in Lexington, KY, however, some travel required
  • ED reports directly to the RTCA Board of Directors
